Military Spouse Flies with Passion
Sherry is an Air Force wife, and clinical research manager (cool job right?) She basically helps pharmaceutical companies around the world bring new products to the market. She also has a passion for raising awareness to employment challenges faced by the milspouse community.
Sherry’s been regularly taking aerial classes for six months. She initially tried aerial because she needed a way to release work stress, cope with a deployment, and meet new people. Having done yoga for years, she was excited to use aerial as an avenue to deepen her practice.
“I was a bit hesitant to try a class at first, because I was fearful of being the new girl since I’d never done aerial,” said Sherry. “I quickly discovered that with aerial, we’re all learning, all the time.”
Sherry says aerial’s been an excellent way to relieve stress and anxiety. “When I’m doing aerial yoga, there’s no opportunity for my mind to wonder, so it’s a great mental break.”
Additionally, she says it’s an amazing strength workout that targets areas she can’t on the mat. She still enjoys traditional yoga though. “The Happy Hips class has been a game-changer for me because it’s helped reverse the damage caused from sitting at work all day.”
Like most, Sherry’s busy schedule and job requires her brain to be in overdrive all the time. She shared, “I was surprised that aerial literally forces me to turn off all thoughts and laser focus. For me, I was shocked at how mentally relaxing that is.”
After practicing yoga for over 15 years, Sherry is taking the next step and participating in a Yoga Alliance Teacher Training.
“Sherry is a breath of fresh air,” says Erika Bennett, aerial instructor at Hang Out Yoga. “She is beyond intelligent, obviously demonstrated by her career. But what’s even more impressive is her consistent practice and passion to learn more everyday. I cannot wait to see where this journey leads her!”
